Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it.
His attention to books and reading wasn’t in anyway limited to the Hogwarts library and its environs. Or his family library for that matter when he was at home. Nor was it limited to his chosen favorite class subject of potions and the secondary favorite choice of Herbology given its connection to the former. Nigel often times preferred the company of the written word over the company of his fellow students, something that stemmed from the roughness of his time growing up. Given the family he had and the life he had lived both previous to and after his entering Hogwarts, the experience with many others had led him into feeling more comfortable as the quiet one in the corner. The bookworm in the middle of the rest of Ravenclaw’s literary eagles.
Of course keeping one’s nose in a book had its good and its bad moments.
Nigel was busy studying for one OWL or another in the Ravenclaw common room. There were a few others scattered around the room, some studying or doing homework, others simply quietly talking or playing around. Realizing he had forgotten another book he needed up in his dorm, he had gotten up from the couch he had been reading in and turned, moving to head back up to his dorm to retrieve it. The actions only served to cause him to collide with a housemate in his movements, the Ravenclaw not paying much attention to anything other than his purposeful stride and the book already in hand. “Um…I am sorry,” he said tentatively as he registered what had happened, his arms having moved to catch himself and whoever he had bumped into. “Oh I’m so sorry,” a deep but softer tone echoed.
Two voices were heard at the same time, one masculine and one feminine as each tried to assess the damage to themselves and each other. Nigel quickly letting go where he had caught the girl’s arm, the young woman moving in turn to lean down and retrieve the book that had been dropped in the floor in the process. “I apologize. I wasn’t watching where I was going,” Nigel remarked finally breaking the silence once more. The fifth year already feeling the blush redden the tips of his ears hidden beneath his lanky black hair. He knew it was his fault through and through, wishing he hadn’t been so clueless of others. ‘”Its okay. No harm done…rea--” She assured him, handing over his property, a book whose title escaped her notice other than the fact it was a textbook. Looking as if she was about to say something more but the girl breaking off at the end as she was interrupted. “Elinor….come on!” Another girl called from near the entrance hole, clearly waiting for her friend who was supposed to be following her. “We told Rebecca we’d meet her in the courtyard before Care of Magical Creatures.”
The Ravenclaw girl in question…Elinor it seemed as she was called, looked to her friend and then back at Nigel as if debating her next action. “Um…bye,” she said taking her leave before following the other girl and heading out of the common room.
…leaving the older boy wondering what had just happened. And completely forgetting the reason he had gotten up in the first place.
