"
Professor, is there any way to save the withered and wilted part of the plant especially if they look like they are almost dead?"
"... no." Because realistically if a plant looked dead, then it was.
"I'm not saying it's impossible, but usually it's the new shoots which allow the plant to thrive again... once the roots are in order of course." Quote:

At Bentley's words, Milton got up from his chair and went to the front to pick out a root.
"So... We're gonna drown these, and then save them again?" Just to clarify. Seemed like a waste of water.
Was this boy listening... at all?
"No. I do not condone drowning plants or parts of plants for the purpose of study. You will be working on these roots, as they are." Quote:

If anything, at least she'd know what to do if she accidentally overwatered anything in the future. Her mother did all the gardening at home, after all.
Once that was finished, she stood up to head over and collect a root for herself. At least she knew she would be able to accomplish whatever the class activity was, and it seemed it wasn't a partner activity. Which meant things would be more like the last lesson, as opposed to the first. Minus tree-climbing, but then also minus slipping on ice. Plus, she was still thinking they'd be burning whatever it was they'd brought, which meant she'd finally get rid of that last remaining connection to her ex-boyfriend. She could stop feeling guilty that she was hiding something from Matt, even if it had been unintentional. Although, she'd thought of one other thing as she sat back down. "You said we'd have to be careful about using sponges to soak up the water, because of possible toxins," she said, raising her hand after setting her root on her table. "Does that mean it would be better to use natural sponges, like sea sponges?" Her mother had a few of those in her painting supplies. "Yes, always opt for natural."
Right, now that everybody had their root. It was time to get a little dirty.
"Now for today's lesson I asked you all to bring two items, one a newspaper and another item of your choice to burn." She paused, making sure all the students were following along.
"Newspaper is a good absorbent. So if you have a severely over watered plant whose roots are swollen and rotting, then the first thing you do is dry it off." That much was obvious, wasn't it?
Picking up a root for herself and a coupled of sheets from the daily prophet, she demonstrated as she spoke.
"Your first task, is to wrap the newspaper around the roots and squeezing it gently. Remember while these roots are not water logged, an over watered plants roots will be very sensitive and very soft... you don't want to break them up." Holding the root in front of her, she wrapped the newspaper around the sides and twisted the bottom a little to enclose the roots. Then she squeezed the root gently, almost massaging them with her fingers.
Unwrapping the paper from the root, it ripped and shredded due to the little moisture it had absorbed from the mud that covered the root.
"Once you've done that, we'll move onto the next step." OOC: You need a minimum of 2 posts for this task to be eligible for full participation. The lesson will continue in approximately 12 hours.
