All the Professors were sitting at one long table, which felt good. There was no Professor Student separation, but they were all equals on Christmas. There were Eight Gryffindor Students, Three Hufflepuff students, and Four Ravenclaw students, and much to the Marauder's disgust, only one Snivelling Slytherin student. The food was delicious, and there was so much of it. The Marauders stuffed as much as they could into their mouths, having a suspicion that as soon as they blinked the Elves would take all their food away. Well, they weren't going to let that happen! As soon as a spot came free in their mouths, they would stuff it full again.
"Bunch of pigs," Marlene said to Alice, and they laughed. Even the Professors were finding the humour in it.
But all the boys could do was smile, and eat more.
And then dessert came.
"Mr. Potter and Mr. Black, do you have much room left?" Dumbledore said with a chuckle.
The boys rubbed their bellies and looked at each other. Well, they weren't about to have Feast without trying everything. By the end of the feast, they were so full and uncomfortable that it felt like their belly buttons would pop out. They all made their way back up to the common room. All but Lily.
"Where's your girlfriend?" Sirius asked.
"She's not my girlfriend yet, and... she's probably with Snivellus," James said in a revolted tone, then followed it up by pretending to be sick.
"Fudge Tree," they said, and they climbed into the tower.
"Oh, I'm so full," James said, lying down on the floor by the fire.
"Me too, move over," Sirius said, kicking his legs out of the way.
What seemed like a few hours later, James woke up. He was being poked. "Gerrof!" he mumbled, then turned over. It was hard. He opened his eyes and saw the fire in front of him, which scared him.
"Have a good nap?" Lily asked, laughing quietly.
"Err... yes, where is everyone?" he asked. Last he remembered, Sirius was right there next to him.
"They have all gone to bed, they tried waking you but you just kept thrashing around."
"Oh... what's the time?"
"Just after 2 in the morning," Lily said, "Are we still going for a walk?"
"Er.. yes, let me just get my cloak," he said, and ran up the stairs. Being careful not to wake anyone, he retrieved his cloak, changed his socks, and put on some warmer clothes. When he went back down, he saw Lily was all ready standing by the portrait, ready to open it.
"No, don't open it until we're in the cloak," James said.
"Why?"
"Because if the Fat Lady sees us, she could tell Filch. And then we would be in trouble."
Lily laughed, "You? Scared about getting into trouble? I thought you were brave," she said.
"I am not scared about getting into trouble, I just don't want YOU to get in trouble. And besides, Sirius and I swear we saw chains and whips in Filch's cupboard once," he said, shuddering. He had the distinct feeling Filch showed them 'accidentally' just to scare them.
Lily had a look of disgust on her face, "What? For chaining people up?"
"I assume so, he didn't say anything. Pretended he didn't notice us seeing them."
Lily shrugged and opened the door, running out.
"Lily?" James whispered, throwing the cloak over himself. What was she doing? he ran off after her, trying to find her, at the same time as keeping himself hidden. "Lily?" he whispered, then stopped dead. She was squatting down in front of him patting a cat. OH NO! "LILY! Get away, that's Mrs. Norris, Filch's cat, come here!"
"Well, well, well... look at this," James heard. His heart sank. It was Filch. Lily was going to be in trouble.
