She paused to take a breath, there really was no point in going into the Blast-Ended Skrewts since the subject matter was pygmy puffs at the moment. "A few things that came to mind were the fact that pygmy puffs are not technically a new species, but are only miniature versions of an existing creature - Puffskeins - creating a new breed and not new species." A rather nice little loophole there. "Also, Puffskeins only have a Ministry rating of XX, which means that they are harmless and may be domesticated. The ban Scamander wrote seems to be written in such a way to prevent witches and wizards from crossbreeding species that could result in a creature thats unpredictable or impossible to control, but Puffskeins do not pose this threat."
Kurumi lowered her hand now and glanced at Vickers. Hopefully that had been an acceptable summary of their discussion, taking out the details that were not directly related to pygmy puffs.
"Assuming that these things are considered in the review process, it would seem that pygmy puffs fall under a different category and the ban does not apply to them." Williamson nodded as Kurumi spoke. "Excellent. I like how you referred to other creatures we know the history of when trying to learn about the pygmies. I would say that Fred and George Weasley likely created pygmy puffs without knowledge of nor hindrance toward the Ban on Experimental Breeding." He smiled congenially at the Gryffindor. "But even if they had known about it, I have a feeling their creatures would have been exempt since they're harmless little fuzzballs anyway."
He gave Nerf an affectionate pat and looked to the next pair. Quote:

"Professor, I'm Keefer Marius and this is Ella.. I never caught her last name, actually!" He should've thought about that before he spoke up. Oh well. "We decided to talk about where the pygmy puff got that pygmy part of its name."
"We started from the fact that these creatures are bred from Puffskeins. Those are usually bigger than the pygmy puffs we see here, though that is not conclusive scientific evidence as you asked for." Although, they must have at least thirty different specimens here, so it was likely a valid conclusion.
"So we think the pygmy part is meant to refer to their small size. We support this hypothesis with the additional fact that the word 'pygmy' also refers to little people. It makes sense, then, that these puffs are called pygmies because they are small as well. Probably they average much smaller than most Puffskeins and other magical creatures, just like pygmies average smaller than other cultural groups."
Had they been scientific enough? Who knew. But at least he had tried to present their discussion as such. "Good answer, Keefer and Ella, and you're correct too. I actually have a full-grown puffskein rolling around in here somewhere....." Williamson trailed off with a look up toward the loft of the barn. "Maybe he'll come down later. He looks and behaves just like these little guys," he petted his Nerf, "but they're somewhat easier to train."
At least that had been his experience with them.
"Anyone else care to share??"
