Since a werewolf only transformed during full moon, it somehow related to Astronomy. Was it? As the last word left his mouth a sea of hands shot up faster than lightning bolts. Turning his attention to Hades, "Yes our magic is definitely dependant on the movement of planets, stars and most of all the moons phases which we learned about last term. 2 points to Slytherin!" Raven seemed to be on the same trail of thoughts that Hades had been a minute ago. Nodding he said "Yes Astronomy do teach us what other things the solar system consists of besides the Earth and Moon. And you are also correct that the power of some magical creatures grows strong during for example a full moon phase. 3 points to Slytherin!" Professor Roslund said with a smile

We wouldn't understand these things if we didn't study Astronomy." Kurumi paused for a moment. There was A LOT that could be said to answer this particular question. "Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences and through studying it many amazing discoveries were made. I believe that a hole in the Earth's ozone layer was discovered while scientists were studying Venus for example. However, I also think that we have an interest in astronimical knowledge simply because of our eagerness to discover. Space being the final frontier and all." Kurumi Hollingberry never ceased to amaze him with her knowledge and way of wording her thoughts which sometimes even surpassed his own. Listening to her he nodded and smiled "Yes very good Kurumi. You bring up a lot of good examples as to why we need to study astronomy. Without the sun’s energy, warmth and radiation Earth wouldn’t be inhabitable." "We need to study the world around us to evolve as people and beings and to continue to make scientific advances to broaden our knowledge about our planet and things beyond it. You were correct scientists did discover the hole in ozone layer when they were studying Venus. The Ozone layer is what protects us from direct sun light. 6 points to Gryffindor." He said flashing Kurumi a big smile. Quote:

"Good, good Silvia, Laura and Messer, Astronomy is indeed the study of the celestial bodies and scientists do try to discern how universe began since knowing how everything started is essential for being able to go forward. 3 points to Ravenclaw, 3 points to Hufflepuf and another 3 points to Hufflepuff." And like...I think it's important that we learn about space and stuff." Little Indiana was next to answer. Edvard almost felt the urge to hit his head on something when the claw said that they learned about it because it was part of the curriculum. Keeping a neutral face Professor Roslund said "Yes Indiana astronomy is part of the curriculum and a core subject. It is important to learn about space, could you give an example besides it being cool? 1 point." Quote:

Yup, everything was there. Peering up at the professor, she raised her hand. "Lots of things in the sky can affect our magical world. Last year, you and Professor Bentley taught us how the moon can affect plant growth, and we use magical plants in lots of things--like potions," she said. "There's other connections, too, like...to creatures. The mooncalf only comes out during the full moon, so we can use what we know about the moon's phases to predict when the mooncalves will come out."
She shrugged. "So I think we study Astronomy, because so many things in the sky affect us here in the magical world," she added. "Oh, and one more thing--some people believe you can predict the future from studying the sky." Not Sierra, though. She still wasn't really convinced that Divination was worth anything. Turning to one of the infamous snakettes; Sierra he noted that she was one of the few who looked pretty displeased by her new attire. Well you couldn’t please everyone it was just the way of life. Sierra though gave some great examples "Very good Sierra. The moon does like we showed last term affect plant growth and when you should brew particular potions. The mooncalves is definitely a creature which is directly affected by the moons phases since it only comes out during a full moon. If you want to learn more about moon calves you’ll have to ask Professor Williamson."
Divination…!!!
Edvard knew that someone would bring that up eventually "Yes divination is the art of predicting the future by studying the sky. It is not my field though so I don’t know how accurate the form is. 5 points to Slytherin." Professor Roslund detected that Sierra wasn’t a fan of Divination but he didn’t read too much into it since this was Astronomy class not Divination. Quote:

And by knowing what is out there, we might be able to understand how the universe was formed?’, the third year tried to guess. ‘And ummm…’, Gwen went on talking, and, after a short pause, she added: ‘Perhaps if we know more about it, we might be able to find out how it is evolving?’ Somewhat. To the wizarding world, knowing how the various planets and stars and even the moon and sun, somehow affect our planet in some way to increase or decrease our magical powers is also very important." "Good Gwen and Alyssa one reason to study astronomy is understanding how the universe came into existence to be able to predict how it will evolve and change over time. 3 points to each Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff!" Professor Roslund said firing a smile in the claws direction. Why so hesitant when she wasn’t wrong? Quote:

Maybe he was looking for a bit more than that, though, so Keefer continued. "And also because it gives us insight into how our universe works. We can get clues to the past and possibly unlock the future." The Hufflepuff captain looked warm and happy Professor Roslund noted as he turned to him. Keefer followed up with an almost identical answer as the previous speakers Gwen and Alyssa. "3 points to Hufflepuff, studying how the universe came into existence is a very important reason since it helps us predict the future for our planet and mankind." Quote:

There are also some dwarf planets in the solar system, the most well-known ones being Pluto, Eris and Ceres." Vlimia said, once she was chosen. That was just about all she knew, except that most of the planets were named after Roman gods, if not all of them. She didn't exactly know what all the gods symbolized, though. Venus was beauty and love, Mars was war or something, Neptune was the sea or water and Mercury was travel. These were pretty well named, in her opinion. Venus was a pretty planet, Mars was red like blood and anger, Neptune was blue like the sea (duh!) and Mercury travelled really fast across the sky. "Good Vilmia 2 points to Ravenclaw. The solar system does consist of those 8 planets and 3 dwarf planets." Professor Roslund smiled and scribbled a few notes on his adjacent parchment. Quote:

I mean you use a telescope to locate and study different things in the night sky..." Ella wasn't sure if this was correct but that's what she associated with astronomy. "Good Ella 2 points to Hufflepuff. In astronomy we do study starts with the help our telescope as well as other celecstial bodies like meteors and constellations to name some." Understanding is what gives us knowledge and knowledge is power. "It's to gain knowledge of what surrounds the Earth and how it affects our planet in a daily basis," he said. "For example, how much the moon influences plants, humans and other things on Earth." That was just one example, but babbling about other things would probably take a lot of time to describe, so he stopped. Quote:

"Good Kennedy and Elise 2 points to Slytherin and Ravenclaw. Astronomy does study how life is affected on a daily basis by the moon for example." Professor Roslund agreed. Quote:

Ok, what's next?
As Katrina went in the what the hell is this?! robes Professor Roslund instructed them to wear, she also wore the weird duck slippers. When she finished, Professor Roslund had asked a question. Uhmmm...?
Kat raised her hand, shaking with the cold. "Astronomy helps us in many ways. Not only us, but also the Muggles. In their world, Astronomy is the study of celestial objects. You know like stars, planets, comets, asteroids, meteroids, and more. Well in our case, Astronomy helps us in ways that only we could sometimes understand. Centaurs, well, they seem like they're reading the planets or something. Astronomy may also relate to Herbology. I remember last term we had a joint lesson with Professor Bentley about some plants that only grow during a certain phase of the moon..."
Maybe she should stopping talking before she practically discussed the entire lesson they had. "Very good Louisa and Taylor and Katrina, I liked how you worded it Louisa. We definitely study the mutual cycle of affection in the universe in astronomy. 3 points to Ravenclaw for you each and also 3 points to Slytherin." He said enthused. Quote:

That might be one of th eonly answers she really contributed, but at least she'd said something. At least she was trying. "Good August, Amelia and Stella 3 points to Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw respectively. He then looked at the robe he was wearing. Hmm, it was class rules but it was a different look of robe. "Good Adam the moon cycles aids us in potion brewing when picking an herb or plant can affect the turnout of a potion which Professors Lafay and Bentley can tell you a lot more about. 2 points to Gryffindor!" As she puffed a bit at the end she normally didn't say those types of stuff as it was normally stuck in her brain and didn't come out. "3 points to Slytherin. Good Eva. She decided not to phrase it like that, though. To much potential for mocking. "Good Angelina and Sky. 3 points to Slytherin for the each of you. Studying meteors can help us determine a meteors route and if it’s on a collision course with a planet, and we can if possible try and prevent it." Roslund said pleased.
Returning up front since he had been moving around while listened to the answers Professor Roslund clapped his hands to get attention. "To sum up you all have given very believable reasons as to why Astronomy is part of the curriculm. The celestial bodies and everything else within the universe has a bigger or smaller affect on our lives since we as Miss Carter put it so eloquently are a part of a mutual effect cycle which is evident if you look at the moon that affects our magic, our emotions, plantation and moods and also controls our tides." "Some of you have also mentioned that studying how the universe came into existence helps us predict and plan for the future of mankind and our planets evolution which is very essential. "
Now then "Let’s move on…"
Taking up a box from behind his desk Professor Roslund opened the box and took and placed an object on his desk."Can anyone identify what this object is and what kind of uses it might have?" Occ: Just identify the object and state what it is used for. I will post a blackboard summation later + add in the points you’ve earned.
