42. Portraits

As Reid looked at the portrait that was hidden up in the attic his expression was melancholy. The portrait was painted beautifully, just like the others that were up here, but this one was sadder than the rest. Not because it was in actual fact a sad picture. Rather it showed two quite happy, if slightly reserved, boys. It was also the last portrait that his parents had gotten that particular artist to create for the family.

The portrait had been completed the day before Alexander had died. It was the last ever picture of his brother and that hurt.
