She was bouncing in her seat even MORE when he confirmed her suspicion about him being the Head of the Magical Creatures Department in the Ministry of Magic. She KNEW that she had seen him while on her tour of the Ministry and Merlin did she have a lot of questions for him...but those were going to have to wait as the lesson had started and she followed him to their next location, throwing her bag over her shoulder.
"Mr. Aldredge," Kurumi said, hand shooting up into the air. "Kurumi Hollingberry, fourth year Gryffindor." Usually these substitute teachers wanted to know who they were for future reference, so better safe than sorry. "A hippogriff is a magical creature with the front legs, wings, and head of a giant eagle and the body, hind legs and tail of a horse. Their eyes are a brilliant orange and really stands out against the steal coloring. The Ministry has given them a rating of XXX, which means that competent wizards should cope with them. They demand respect and are very proud creatures, so not following proper etiquette when approaching them could be the last thing you do." Quote:

"Their front legs, wings, and head are those of an eagle, and their body, hind legs, and tail are those of a horse."
She lowered her hand. Oh, she nearly forgot about the Ministry rating. "Oh, I think they're classified as being XXX--which means competent wizards should cope," she added. Quote:

And Ellie really never planned on seeing one up close. She kind of wanted to keep it that way, too, so...hopefully...this Ministry man's question was totally unrelated to the lesson.
It was possible. Quote:

For the question she didn't know what the Ministry of Magic classified it by, but she knew what they looked like. She raised her hand and said, "For me I'd explane a hippogriff to look somewhat like a horse with wings and a beak like a bird." Quote:

Carter's hand shot up. "They have an XXX rating... like Leprechauns and Fire crabs. Which means... as long as we don't do anything stupid we should be fine." In fact... he was pretty sure that was the exact definition of what that rating meant. "Oh. And they also have a dance named after them." Being muggleborn though he wasn't quite sure what was meant by "Do the Hippogriff". Perhaps, because he was bringing it up, the Ministry man would demonstrate it. Quote:

It is very similar to another mythical creature, the Griffin. Ministry classified it as XXX. It means, Competent wizards should cope it." The Minstry classification of a Hippogriff is XXX." Willaim told him. This classification means Copetent Wizards should cope" Willaim explained to him. Quote:

At least he'd gotten the horse and eagle part right. Right? Quote:

Jonathan doesn't fancies animals that much but studying about magical creatures is sure fun.
He should have more pets other than his owl. Hippogriffs... Jonathan knows about them. They're quite magnificent creatures too. Jonathan raised his hand to answer "They're known to be proud creatures so one must behave properly when approaching such magical creature... and proper etiquette as well" so he heard "Hippogriffs has so many different animals parts..." he continued. Well, it's true. "They have the head of an eagle... tail and hind legs of the horse, and have this orange-colored eyes..." it is orange right?
Oh and he almost forgot... Hippogriffs are classified by the Ministry of Magic as... "XXX" he said, "they are competent wizards should cope." which leads his answer back to his previous answer about wizards showing them proper etiquette and respect. Quote:

Kennedy took a minute to think about the question and then raised his hand. "A hippogriff is a creature that has features of a giant eagle and a horse," he said. He didn't have to explain how an eagle and a horse looked like, that was like basic animal knowledge people should know about. "It is classified as a level XXX by the Ministry of Magic." Would they get to see one 'cause he wanted to see it. Quote:

Victoria then turned her attention to the question. So they're talkinga bout hippogriffs huh? Victoria urged to meet on... a real, live, hippogriff. "Well...a hippogriff has a head of an eagle, a body of a horse-like creature, and wings." Victoria replied in her best answer form. "And as for the Ministry ratings, I believe they gave this creature three X's - only for experienced wizards or witches." Victoria went on.
Excellent! They all appeared to have at least some knowledge on hippogriffs, most of which was correct. Either they'd already had a lesson on the creatures or they were looking them up on their own - whichever it was, Atticus was pleased all the same. "Correct, yes! The hippogriff, classified by the Ministry as one that competent wizards and witches can cope with, has the head, front legs, and wings of an eagle and the body, hind legs, and tail of a horse, along with very striking orange eyes and steel-colored beaks." Desiree was actually kind of excited. She'd never seen one up close before.. But when Mr. Aldrege asked what they knew, she realized the answer was.. not much.
But she knew enough and so she raised her hand, "Sir like most people said, it's a creature that's both bird and horse." she paused "You have to respect the hippogriff, because they're really proud creatures. If you bow and be polite, they aren't dangerous really" she said with a small smile remembering something her mom had told her.. surprising really, since her mom didn't even like animals. Quote:

There are a few things that wizards must maintain when handling them though, which is how they approach and how they communicate with them. They have to bow to them and maintain eye contact, and wait for the Hippogriff to bow back at them before they can be approached. And I think that's why they are classified XXX, because an incompetent wizard probably won't know how to approach them and would be hurt... maybe killed. Especially if they insult the creature. Because they are such proud creatures, they can't be insulted or they will attack. But they can be really loyal if you can build a good relationship with them. I think I read that Harry Potter had a good relationship with Buckbeak. They eat small animals, insects and birds," she explained. Then she took a few breaths. She could sure talk! Quote:

"They are known to be very proud creatures and are easily offended. I have heard that one must bow to them and maintain eye contact. But they are also very loyal and protective to their owners." Ira had read about the loyalty of hippogriffs during the Battle of Hogwarts.
"Isn't there a saying about hippogriffs too? You can take a hippogriff to water but can't make it drink."
Ahh, these were already trying to answer the next question. A good lead in, yes? "I see most of you also know about a hippogriff's temperament - how they're very proud and very easily offended. So for this next question, tell me, step-by-step, exactly what you must do to avoid being attacked by a hippogriff when you approach one."
