Anyway. "I think they're used to cheer people up and brighten up gardens and houses and flower boxes and hospital rooms and pretty much anywhere they're planted." The redhead nodded. Yeah, they were pretty much her favorite flower.
BAH! Attack of the bubbly was it? Seren smiled and nodded at the enthusiastic Slytherin. "Very good Tori."

He usually gave his mom flowers on Mother's day. Sadly, he'd be missing that holiday this year and not be with her. That dampened his mood a bit.
"Yes indeed, they make wonderful gifts." ... such pretty little things, who in their right mind wouldn't want a puffapod for Mother's Day... or any other occasion for that matter.

He certainly couldn't think of any other purpose that the plants had other then projectiles if one were to throw them at someone or something. That hardly seemed like a primary use for a plant.
"Yes very good! They are one of the most popular varieties to be used in floral arrangements... particularly thr pink ones."
Yes the pink ones were lovely. Though Seren had a feeling the boys wouldn't appreciate them all that much.

She glanced over at Jonathan, sitting beside to her left to make sure that he wasn't already dozing off. Herbology was one of those subjects where he tended to zone out quicker than others. She couldn't be sure...but she thought she saw his eyes glazing over just a bit, so she gently nudged his elbow with her own.

When Professor Bentley asked the next question, Kurumi paused for a moment to think and then the two answers that had come to her mind were said. Oh well, that is what she got for hesitating. The thought of Mother's Day brought a small frown to the Gryffindor's face since, well, it was not really something that her family celebrated all that much. Usually, she gave her mother a single carnation on the day, but that was about it. Her mother couldn't bother to be fussed over because she was always too busy ridiculing her children.

"Professor, could they also be used for replanting?" Kurumi asked, raising her hand. "Since the seeds burst into flower if dropped you could easily create a flower garden using just a few of them." Just to, you know, say something different than them being used for decorations and gifts.
It was refreshing to hear some new suggestions, and Kurumi made a very good point. "Aahh yes indeed that's correct! Quite often when wizarding folk are looking for a quick fix to a bland and empty looking garden, puffapods are the perfect solution. The puffapod is amongst the easist to grow, simply because its instantaneous." Hence why it was the first to be added to Greenhouse Three. Quick and bright..

"Yes very good." Another correct answer. Seren glanced down at the seed in her hand affectionately. They really were pretty little things.

It could just be that those were the kids who were happy and loved, or it could have something to do with the flowers themselves...Maybe.
"Yes indeed, the puffapod has the uncanny ability to cheer up the most frail person and there's nothing quite like a bunch of pretty flowers to make you feel better." The colours alone were enough to soothe the soul.

However I have heard tell of them being used in the wards at Mungos for 'get well' gifts - seeing they bloom rather quickly".
"Yes very good answer dear."
The students seemed to be all over this one.

Jillian raised her hand, a little wildly and over enthusiastically. "Oh, Puffapods are simply for decoration, Professor! Don't they look pretty like me? The seed burst and bloom into beautiful flowers when dropped! But I don't know how that happens. But maybe, a magical chemical reaction occurs inside, which causes the seeds to burst and bloom. Either that or the seeds just want to break free like a princess, and flower and see the beauty of this world." Jilly talked as if she was in a trance, but she wasn't. It was her way of getting involved in the class. Sharing happy, wild but rather overly dramatic thoughts, that is.
The girls enthusiasm caught her a little of guard. Seren couldn't help but stare. Gosh the Hufflepuff's had some curious characters.

"Uhh... yes indeed they are pretty," though she didn't comment on the girls appearance, narcissism wasn't a trait she would encourage, "... I did only ask the one question dear." She gave the girl a small smile, perhaps a little awkwardly... but nobody liked a little miss know-it-all.

Plus, puffapods were about as far from biting toadstools and manic pixies as could be, which was another positive note.

She raised a hand when it came to the next question, though. "Puffapods are used for decoration. In gardens, floral arrangements, that sort of thing. My mother keeps some in our garden at home to use in still life painting because of the bright colors," she said. The flowers made her happy, and she could see why everyone else seemed to agree. She could also see why they'd be useful as patient gifts in St. Mungo's for that same reason. She was oddly excited about planting some in the greenhouse now, even if she knew that meant she wouldn't get to see them a lot after the term was over.
Sere gave the Ravenclaw a nod of the head. "Yes! very good."

Jonathan looked at the three colored, shining puffapods. He had never really read that much about them so probably a guess would never hurt. He raised his hand "They're pretty, colorful and cute..." yeah, no bouncing, no biting, not even crying or screaming. "...So they would be nice to be gifts? Or a decoration around the house..." he continued. Well, they are adorable to look at. Something that girls would definitely would like to have and design it in their rooms or something. So does his answer count?
The little interaction between Jonathan and Kurumi hadn't gone unnoticed, and the Slytherin's response managed to bring a smile to Seren's face. Perhaps the first part of his answer wasn't pertaining to puffapods? but rather.. a particularly bright Lioness.
"Yes very good Jonathan," she managed without laughing or giggling.

As the Herbology professor asked another question, Aiden slowly raisec up her hand. "It's mainly use for decoration. Kids also give this flower to their mothers on Mothers' Day."
Nodding her head in agreement she offered Aiden a smile.
"Very good, very good."

Just pretty? Well yes.. the boy was right.
"Indeed, they are used primarily for their looks, often in flower arrangements as well as in the garden."

They'll be planting puffapods today. Ooooh! Erin would definitely choose the pink ones.

Raising her hand upon the Professor's question, "It is used for decoration, Professor, because of their lovely colors. They just look so pretty."
Seren nodded happily.
"Yes, very good Erin."

After all there wasn't much that couldn't be used in a potion or two at least.

The Hufflepuffs response managed to get a light chuckle out of her. Sneezing trolls? ... possibly.
"Very good... though I'm not sure about the trolls, I for one haven't tried it myself." Nor was she going to.

On the bright side, she's not terrified anymore. "That was pretty lame of me. How could I get scared with puffapods? They're so adorable! But I wish Professor brought some blue ones." Lillian thought.
"They do make wonderful gifts," she nodded in agreement. "The puffapod plant itself is often used for decorative purposes as well as for gifts."

Pfffft. Decoration? People serious thought he might want some pink flowers by his bed? He snorted quietly. That might be to their taste, and they were kinda bright and cheery, but Spike could think of much more exciting plants to decorate his room with. Some even had a handy defence mechanism. Ya know, against pesky sisters. Decoration should not count as a primary use.

With a small hmph, Spike raised his hand. "They're subject to much research at the moment, are they not?" he said. "There's much interest in they're explosive growth, and whether that mechanism can help with understanding other things in potions and healing." A look of excitement flickered across his face at the word 'explosive'. It probably wasn't explosive enough for Spike's tastes, but the researching stuff sounded fun repeatedly throwing the seeds at the ground. BOOM. "That could be much more important."
"They are indeed."
This Ravenclaw was very clued into Herbological matters, though of course she figured he would be. Spike was very apt with the subject.
"Hopefully its only a matter of time before we know more about them."

Seeing as the students were so knowledgeable in the uses of puffapods, Seren thought she might test them a little further before allowing them to get their hands dirty. Because really, getting their hands dirty was the fun part.

"So now that you've all been able to identify the plants primary function, lets take a closer look at it." Holding up the orange pod in her hand, she traced her finger around the rim. "See this ridge here along the side, this part of the seed is particularly fragile, so when it's dropped from a particular height and it makes contact with a hard surface, the seed bursts open and the plant blooms."

She turned the seed over in her hand, perhaps a demonstration was in order, simply because the students may not have seen the process before.

Smiling, she held up the orange puffapod seed. The smooth pea-shaped pod, just smaller than the size of her hand clasped firmly in her fingers. The kiddies were watcing yes? Holding it up high enough, Seren let the seed fall to the floor in a way so that it landed on the fragile edge of the seed. Instantaneously, the seed cracked and a plant bloomed in its place. It reached a good three feet in height and it displayed a very vibrant orange flower with a deep magenta ring in the center.
"So what do you think it is, about dropping the seed that makes it bloom?"

OOC: We'll be moving on in approximately 12hours fromt he time of this post.
