Chapter 3



The sorting happened really quick. Not many students have been enrolled ever since it was reported that the “Dark Lord” is back. However, Cornelius Fudge has bee blocking all types of evidences about the said situation. My mom has been also hesitant about letting me go to school for this term. She told me to be very careful.

As usual, Professor Dumbledore would announce the old and new professors. Everyone was familiar except, of course, for one: DADA professor. That position seemed to be jinxed. Every year their would always be a new professor and all of them are weird. The new DADA professor was no exception. She looks very perky. Her hideous pink outfit stands out the most. She has that peculiar smile on her face even with all the wrinkles. She was not tall at all. She was this tiny ball of hag that walks around Hogwarts like she knows it from the back of her head. She even interrupted the Head Master’s speech so that she could insert her own “safety” speech. What is up with that?

Her name is Dolores Jane Umbridge… Professor Dolores Jane Umbridge, that’s what she wants to be called.

“Dark Arts is not really a necessary subject to be studied by underage students.” That’s our lesson number one. First day of school, first subject of the week and we get none other than DOLORES! Happy, pink ball of sunshine!
“The Ministry ought to correct this. Nothing is out there students of Hogwarts. It’s just the Daily Prophet’s interpretation of news.” She insisted.

Whether or not the Dark Lord has come to hunt Harry down, she is still boring. If you look around my classmates are not really listening. It’s a waste of time, effort and energy. What was Professor Dumbledore thinking? Putting Umbridge into this school as the new DADA professor.

During lunch period I marched hastily to the great hall. I sat down near the Ravenclaws and took the club sandwich on the table. Then I saw Hermione, Ron and Harry came in. They were annoyed or upset about something, well, Hermione was. I approached them and asked what they were upset about.

“Umbridge of course. She’s really frustrating. The course subject is called Defense Against the Dark Arts not Sit Around and Read Stuffs. We have Snape for that.” Hermione expressed.

She was not the first student to actually tell me that. She’s the 15th to complain. I counted.
Hermione went to the library for some research about Umbridge while Ron went with Seamus to the loo.

“I believe in what you say Harry.” I said.
“I didn’t say anything yet.” Harry looked puzzled.
“I mean, about He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. I believe that he’s back.” I looked at him.
“Because he is, Cho” he replied.
“Umbridge thinks its rubbish.” I said hesitantly.

Harry knew that Umbridge is not here at Hogwarts to teach, she is here to infiltrate.
“Was that Dumbledore?” Harry asked me.
“I… don’t k-know” I looked to where he is looking.
“I need to go. I’ll see you later.”

I was alone again. Everyone seems to be upset about Umbridge situation. Apparently, she is more than meets the eye. If I may say, she’s more evil than the Dark Lord.

As the weeks went by the more we got irritated about Umbridge presence at Hogwarts. She’s completely psycho. She doesn’t teach us anything about the Dark Arts. She’s not doing well in NOT teaching us about the Dark Arts. She was there to punish students. Professor Snape seems less of a threat.

“You-know-who is back and if Dolores can’t teach us how to defend ourselves, Harry will.” I was at the meeting for the new secret organization Harry, Hermione and Ron came up with. Only a few students were given invites about this and there were no Slytherins invited at all.

Cedric and I signed up for the secret organization. He was very optimistic about the idea but then, Harry started to push me away. Ever since Cedric and I entered the club, he no longer speaks to me about anything at all. He’s avoiding me even during practice.

What’s wrong with him this time???
