The next morning, Izabella woke up to a cloudy grey sky that matched her mood. She sighed and rolled out of bed, glancing at the mirror as she made her way to the bathroom and groaning at the reflection. She looked like a miserable panda.
Running a hand through her hair, she walked down the hallway to the bathroom and washed slowly, her mind blank. She returned back to her room, noticing how quiet the house seemed today.
Izabella stood by the window for a moment, looking down onto the street below. She watched a women tuck a blanket tightly around a young child in a pram and a man amble down the roadside as he talked into his mobile phone. Life outside seemed to pass so slowly yet summer was almost over already. She turned her back on the gloomy morning and began to get ready.
Harry was sat at the table, picking at his toast and watching Sirius pace the room. The tense atmosphere hung in the house like thick smoke. He could see Hermione and Ginny giving him concerned glances every so often but he didn't respond. Hermione and Ron had been having whispered conversations about him all morning. He had decided he couldn't let Izabella go. He needed to find a way to make her stay with Sirius. With him. He had only just found her and wasn't about to lose her.
At that moment a figure strode into the kitchen. Harry gasped as he realised it was Izabella. She wore a corset over a black shirt, her black skirt reaching her shins and flowing out behind her. Her black boots clicked along the floor and her hair was sleek and straight, framing her face which was deathly pale, her eyes lined with black Kohl. A splash of colour came from the blood red lipstick that was in sharp contrast with her ashen face. She fastened a heavy black cloak around her as she entered the room. Izabella's expression was bitter, her eyes empty. Sirius stood, his hands resting by his side fists clenched, his face pained.
“Oh come on. I don't look that bad.” Izabella laughed coldly, attempting to break the tense silence that had filled the kitchen when she entered.
“Izzy don't do this.” Sirius whispered in a croaky voice. A flash of emotion hit Izabella's eyes before she shook her head and turned away from him.
“Sirius stop being stupid.” she said firmly. She looked at Harry who looked back at her with pleading eyes. Izabella sighed and sat in the chair next to him, grabbing his hand and holding it tightly.
“Harry please. I have to do this. For Lily and James.” she said, her eyes begging him to understand. He shook his head.
“It wasn't your fault -”
“It was Harry, but I'm going to make up for it. I'm going to protect you. I'm your godmother, it's my job.” she smiled weakly and placed a hand on his cheek softly.
“It's your job to stay alive.” he said quietly, looking down at the table. Izabella laughed slightly.
“Harry, Voldemort won't kill her. He likes her too much.” Sirius spat, leaning on the back of Harry's chair.
“Bellatrix on the other hand...” Izabella rolled her eyes and laughed.
Harry's frown deepened.
“Stop worrying. I'll be fine. I promise.” Izabella said seriously looking into Harry's eyes. He nodded slightly to show he understood. Sirius squeezed his shoulder gently.
They all looked up as Snape cleared his throat pointedly from the doorway.
“Sorry to interrupt this touching scene, but we have somewhere to be.” he said sarcastically, raising an eyebrow at Izabella. She nodded and stood up, smiling at Harry then taking Sirius' hand for a moment.
“Come home soon.” he said pulling Izabella towards him and kissing her forehead. Izabella melted against his chest for a moment, wishing she could stay in his arms forever. She pulled away from him and nodded then turned and walked over to Snape in the doorway.
“Ready?” he asked. She nodded curtly and smoothed her hair.
Harry was taken aback as they stood in the doorway together at how similar they looked. How did he not guess they were related?
Izabella paused and smiled weakly over her shoulder, then took a deep breath and followed Snape out of Grimauld Place.
