In addition to work and school, Emmalee filled her time with the search for her mother, and by extension her father. She found her mother in 2077, bedridden and noncommunicative, in St. Mungo’s. Her mother passed in 2078, leaving her little clue as to her paternal heritage. In 2085, Emmalee was given a box of her mother's belongings by her aunt which seems to contain photos of her parents together despite being told that her father had been a one-time fling of her mother's. Emmalee has been painstakingly cataloging the contents of the box trying to piece together her mother's life. She is considering a search for her father.

Previously engaged in her 20s but never married, Emmalee was ready to settle down and placed an ad in the Daily Prophet, meeting Iwin Howell in 2084 on a blind date. Despite what they then called a terrible date with no romantic connection, the two kept in touch and quickly became very close friends. As they dated other people, it became clear to Emmalee that she had feelings for him. Just as she was considering ways to put some distance - figurative and literal - between them, Iwin surprised her by confessing his own feelings, and the two began a relationship. A year later, on the second anniversary of that terrible blind date, Iwin proposed. The pair live together in London, but are considering a return to Emmalee's childhood home in Hogsmeade, as her aunt has given them the deed to the house.
