■■ 16. Impedimenta “I’m telling you Hermione, you keep your bloody cat away from Scabbers,” Ron said holding the rat tightly against his chest.
“Ron, stop it,” Hermione said not in response to what he had said, but more directed towards how he was practically suffocating the rodent. “You are going to make his eyes pop out of his head.”
Ron frowned loosening his grip on the rat. “If your cat would just stop wanting turn to Scabbers into dinner, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
Raising an eyebrow, Hermione sat down on the sofa in the common room and Crookshanks rested himself on her lap still eyeing the rodent with a menacing gaze. Crookshanks meowed as if accusing the rat of something and Scabbers wiggled out of Ron’s grip before running across the room with Crookshanks in high pursuit. Hermione pulled her wand from its holster and waved it at the two animals. “Impedimenta!” Crookshanks froze in the air and Scabbers just as he was about to vanish out of sight in a crack in the wall.
Ron rushed over and picked up his pet. “I’m telling you, that cat is going to be the death of Scabbers!”
Somehow, Hermione doubted that.
