Hermione stood frozen in the Gryffindor common room staring with vacant eyes at what had been a happy scene only a few moments earlier. Ron doing well in the match, and without her having to Confund the opposing team, had been a brilliant move by Harry. She had been impressed by his quick thinking and was about to congratulate her friend when it had happened.
That girl, Lavendar Brown, had appeared out of nowhere, wrapped her arms around Ron, and kissed him. Hermione had been expecting Ron to push her away. He couldn’t possibly of fancied her, could he? Hermione had watched, waited, for Ron to shove her out of the way and then come over to Harry and her with some comment about his play being so brilliant that girls were wanting to snog him, but it didn’t happen that way.
Hermione watched as Ron’s arms moved and wrapped themselves around Lavender returning the kiss. Hermione felt as though her heart were being torn in two to the point that she could create a horcrux. Tears threatening to burn her eyes, she turned away and ran out of the common room wishing she had the strength to Obliviate herself.
