Second Year | Phew. Ok, sorry about how far apart my posts have been, but a lot of things are going on. This chapter is long, but it really needs to be. The year is wrapping up and I probably will be doing a year 5 with Ella, starting in the summer, but things will be really different. Thanks for the patience and I love reading the comments.

Chapter 17
Ella awoke, angry with herself. Everyone was asleep in the dormitory, so she slipped on her bath robe, and drowsily went down the stairs. She wasn’t surprised to see Harry there, but she was hoping to be alone.
“Couldn’t Sleep?” He asked sighing.
“Nope you?” She said sighing.
“Bad dream.” He was direct and just stared into the fire.
She couldn’t say a word to Harry because she felt guilty. She couldn’t tell him that she dreamt of Draco Malfoy. He had haunted her dream, stalking her every movement.
Ella stared at the fire. It was warm and inviting. In their silence the two friends fretted about there lives.
The common room filled up quickly and Ella wasn’t ready for the day. She had Potions with the Slytherins, and she knew for sure Draco wouldn’t miss it for the world.
The day drug on .Ella soon had to realize that the weather was a tad bit different than in the states. It was March and the wind in Scotland blew her hair and robes everywhere. Every class she attended the student’s hair looked ruffled and worn. Charms were an easy day, but soon it would be time for Potions.
“Ella , are you ok?”
“Potions is next, it is your favorite.” Ella who was flushed reassured Harry she was fine.
“The weather.” Ella said under her breath. “ That’s all.” She walked into the classroom with her friends, prepared to face the crowd.
“Oh look who is back.” Pansy Parkinson snickered to her ghastly friends.
“It’s the best student of potions in all of Hogwarts history, well since Snape anyway.”
Ella just rolled her eyes. Trying to ignore pansy was hard enough, but defending of the whole gang would be difficult.
“Oh , I almost forgot.” Pansy said with an evil grin.
Ella glanced back at what she was doing.
“Look who else is famous.” Pansy started cackling.
Just as she said it, she tossed the newest copy of witches weekly to Hermione.
Hermione looked confused, but in a confident manner she flipped though the copy to see. Harry Potter's Secret Heartache, by Rita Skeeter. Ella read the article in disgust.
“Hermione, you know it’s false.” “I know.” Hermione didn’t flinch at the article; she knew it was all false.
“Is, Ella brewing some love potions in the Gryffindor Common Room?” Pansy smirked.
The class erupted in laughter.
“I wonder how she knew about Viktor’s invitation.” Hermione whispered.
“Well, what did you say!” Ron asked trying not to sound angry.
“Chill , out.” Ella whispered to Ron. “ You know the truth.” Ron looked at her rolling his eyes.
“ Take a seat.” Snape spoke quick and swiftly.
“ Ten points from Gryffindor, for talking” “ 10 more for having that nonsense in class!” the sounds of groans echoed through the chamber.
Ella glanced at Snape wondering why he was acting this way.
He grabbed the magazine and began to read it allowed, which brought laughter from the Slytherins.
“ You three , are being split up.” “ Sir, She was the one who started this mess.” Ella spoke up pointing at Pansy.
“ Parkinson , and granger” “ Pair up” Ella couldn’t believe what he was doing. Had he not heard her?
“ Do as I say, or I will deduct more points. “ Mrs. Greene, and Malfoy.”
Ella’s eyes got huge. “ Sir, not to be rude, but do you think that is a good idea?” The comment did not come from Ella, but from Draco.
All Snape had to do was give him a look and he sat down.
“ Well lets try and do this.” “ You mean I do everything like every other time.” Ella was not happy.
“ No, not like every other time.” “ I will help.” “ I swear.” Draco covered his hand with hers. “ Don’t do that.” Ella stammered taking her hand back.
“ I will not do this.” She whispered.
“ Do what?” Draco grinned.
“ Stop playing games.” That was the last she spoke about there feelings. She knew he wanted to be with her. But she simply couldn’t. Her friends were too important to her, and she didn’t want to get hurt again.
-------------------------------
“ Stir.”
“ Not like that.” She rolled her eyes.
“ Figure eight.”
“ Like this ?” Draco asked.
“ Your getting it now.” Ella smiled.
“ I am not that bad, you know.” Draco said under his breath
“ Yes you are.” Ella said laughing.
“ Why are you laughing?” Draco whispered.
“ Because you posined me.”
“Funny , I was talking about potion making.” Draco’s smile was wide.
Draco said nothing, and kept stiring.Ella on the other hand, stood there blushing. To quickly deter from the embarrassing situation, she quickly started spitting out directions.
“ Now, the directions say the final solution should be black.”
“ It is !” Draco looked at her with a huge grin.
“ See , was that so hard.”
“ Were the first ones done.” Draco said looking around at the struggling class.
“ We need to refine our notes.”
“ Really?” Draco groaned.
“ A great potion needs accompanying notes.” Ella said laughing.
“ You will be a great teacher.” Draco said pouring the potion into the vials.
“ Thanks, I hope to be.” Ella was editing their notes , making sure everything was included.
They walked together up to Snape’s desk and began to turn everything in.
Looking around the classroom, Ella could see the others struggling. Deep down she wanted to help them, but knew Snape would not allow it. He should be walking around, making sure everyone was helped. Her thoughts were interrupted by the appearance of Igor Karkaroff.
“ I need to talk to you .” “ After class.” Snape didn’t seem the least bit frazzled.
“ You are avoiding me.” “ But I will wait.”Karkaroff seemed spooked.
He turned around to be right in front of Ella. She only knew him as headmaster for Durmstrang, He looked unsettling and frightned.
He looked at her, as if he was looking in her soul.
“ Who are you?” He spoke in a grumbling tone.
“ Ella Greene.” She was trying to be strong, but this man was a foot away from her.
“ You look oddly familiar.” “ But your accent , indicates American.” His tone was in a whisper. Like the very thing he wanted to say was on the tip of his tongue.
“ I told you to wait till after class!” Snape said standing up and looking utterly anxious..
“ Fine.” Karkaroff took one last glance at Ella and walked outside the door.
“ What is everyone looking at.” “ Finish up!” Snape said yelling.
They made there way back to their seats.
“ What was that all about?” Draco said walking back to their seats.
“ I have no idea.” Ella was curious too.
When the bell finally rang, Ella ran towards the door. She did not want to be seen by the Durmstrang head master.
“ Hey Ella, do you want to sit with me at lunch?” “Draco that would not be a great idea.”
“ Why not?” He smiled at her.
“ I am sitting with my friends.”
“ Fine, but you will miss me.” He was becoming too cocky.
Ella was getting angry at how confident he was becoming. She knew she wanted to give in , but her head was telling her he was bad news.
“ Hey guys!” Ella ran up to Harry, Hermione , and Ron.
“What are you guys talking about?”
“ Oh Karkaroff showed….” But before Ron could say anymore He was hit in the ribs by Harry.
“Its not that big of a deal.” Harry said stammering.
“Umm ok.” Ella not really understanding what was going on walked into the great hall with them.
-------------------------------------
The days began to drag on until finally it was Friday night.
“Professor McGonagall, wait up!” Ella ran beside her professor.
“I want to do something different with my hair.”
“Ok, then do it.”
“Well I want to put red streaks in it.”
“ Red, is a natural hair color, so I suppose you can do it.” “ But be tasteful, we have guests.”
“ You rock! “ Ella said speeding away before McGonagall would change her mind.
“ She said yes!”
The girls in their common room bathroom cheered.
“She said red was a natural color, so I can give everyone highlights!”
Hermione, Ginny, Lavender, Parvati took a step back.
“ Ok, I will do mine , and you will see.” Ella said laughing at their scared faces.
The four girls breathed a sigh of relief.
“What shade are you doing?” “A blood red.” Ella smiled.
“ It takes a few minutes to brew, and then I will take this brush and apply it where I want it to go.” “First, I have to wet my hair .”
“Why don’t you use your wand?” Lavender piped up.
“ Don’t ever use your wand for your this.” “I am serious your hair will either look like crap, or you will not have hair on your head.” “ Your choice.”
Ella was very serious. She was very young when her sister Angela tried dying her hair blonde for her trip to California, but she would never forget her hair as it leaped off her head.
With Ella’s hair was wet she took her comb and lightly parted the top of her hair to the bottom. She clipped her hair to the top of her head, took the potion off the fire and began to streak her hair. One perfect chunk at a time she made sure the dye was neat and perfect. Once it looked good, she s stopped and began to speak.
“ Now, we wait a few minutes and then I will rinse my hair and dry it. Then it will look fantastic!” Ella was excited.
“ Now, how long will this last?” Hermione said.
“ A few weeks.” Ella said rinsing her hair.
“ Oh, that’s not so bad.” Hermione said glancing at the dye in the cauldron.
Ella then took her wand and dried her hair. She brushed her long dark hair and turned around to show the streaks.
“ Wow, that looks so great.!” Lavender said admiring the new look.
“ Could you do it to mine?” The three girls looked at Hermione in shock.
She was the last one they would expect to dye there hair.
“ Yeah, and can I straitened it.” Ella said grinning.
“ You can try, but I am telling you the Yule ball is as strait as it gets.” Hermione said matter of factly.
“ Oh, herms.” “I grew up with three older sisters, and one is a model and fashion writer.” “ I can do it.”
The crowd in the bathroom grew and it seemed like the entire group of Gryffindor girls were crowded to see the magic Ella was making.
“ Hermione when are you going to just go out with my bone headed brother.”
Ella glanced over to see Ginny smiling.
“ Weasley, really Hermione?” One of the sixth years said trying not to laugh until Ginny shot her a look.”
“Hey, Hermione is lucky.” Ella said carefully examining the strand she was working with.
“What!!!?” Everyone said in unison.
“I would totally go after him, if he didn’t have thing for Hermione.” Ella didn’t even mind the glances she was getting.
Everyone began to laugh.
“ You know what, he is very nice” One girl said. “ Oh and he is funny too.” Said another student.
Ella smiled not because her plan worked, but because Hermione was too.
“Ok, Miss. Granger, I need you to lean back so I can rinse your hair.” Ella carefully rinsed her hair and began the drying process.
“ Ok , now for the straining process.”
“ I want to see the streaks.”
“No, you have to wait till it’s all done.”
“What’s going on in there, Hermione I have to talk to you.” Harry’s voice echoed outside the girls bathroom.
“ GET OUT!” all the girls screamed.
“ Whats going on in there Harry?”
“ Oh, they wont let Hermione out.” Harry said.
Ella ignoring Ron and Harry’s voice began to use her wand to straitened Hermione’s bushy hair.
“ I will write the directions down for you.” Ella said to a shaky Hermione.
“ Ok, everyone I am done.”
The girls gathered around.
Ella turned the chair so everyone could see her.
“Oh my gosh, you look amazing!!!” Ginny was the first to speak, while the others just stared in awe.
“ If Ron Weasley , doesn’t say nothing to you , I will kill him!” Ella said to a grinning Hermione. They filed one by one out the bathroom door, each with a grin on their faces.
Ella was the last before the premiere of the new Hermione.
“Ok guys attention up here.” Ella spoke loudly so everyone could hear her.
“We need your opinion .”
Ella paused and smiled at the sound of all the giggling from the girls.
“ pss…Come out!” Ella said to Hermione who was behind the door.
Hermione walked slowly beside Ella with her head down. Then with all her might she lifted her head to see the stares of all the boys’ faces.
“ So??? What do you think?” Ella said knowing their answer.
Cheers erupted.
“You look great!” Fred Weasley yelled
“ Go Granger” Seamus Finnegan said.
“You really do look nice.” Neville said coming up to her.
Ella eyed Ron and gave the look that he better say something. Slowly Ella watched as he came to Hermione.
“ Mione, you look beautiful. I didn’t mind your old hair though.” Ron said blushing.
“Thanks Ron.” Hermione said smiling.
Ella saw Ginny smiling and they both slapped hands, knowing they did good.
The room began to disperse and the gang sat talking the night away.
“Ella, you would love the burrow.” Ginny said.
“There is a pond we swim in.”
“Ginny, she doesn’t want to hear about it.”
“Ron, shut up.” “It sounds lovely. “ Where I lived it was small and quaint and I loved it.
Ella flipped through her potions book. It was already Friday night and
tomorrow she would have her date.
“Why did I agree to that stupid date!” Ella said mumbling.
“Do you like someone else?, Because Demetrius is handsome”
“ No…Its not like that.” Ella said reassuring herself more than she was Ginny.
“ I am just not feeling it .” “But I cant cancel.”
“Ella, it will do you some good getting out of the castle.” Harry said
“ Your right” “ The date wont last to long.”
Ella put down her book and said her goodbyes and headed off to bed.
Ella tossed and turned all night. She finally awoke with the sun had risen and the rest of the Gryffindor’s still were sleeping.
She washed her face, and began to get ready.
The morning went fast and the next thing she knew it was noon.
She was at the clock tower at exactly noon. “Where is he?” she spoke aloud.
“ Hey you three!, why do you have all that food?” Ella asked her friends who were sneaking food right next to her.
“ Picnic, yep picnic.” Harry said stuttering over his words. They hurried down the hill towards Hogsmeade.
Hmmmm…
12:10 -------------------------------
12:20 ---------------------------------
“ Ella ,I am sorry I am late.”
“ I had to study.”
“ Ok, then why didn’t you tell me that.” “ I waited hear for twenty minutes. “ Did you not realize it is windy out here?”
“ Lets go.” Ella felt defeated. Any excitement that was left of the afternoon was sucked away.
They headed to the hogs head for lunch. “ Here is a table.”
“ I want next to the window.” “ Um… That’s fine.” Ella was looking at him oddly. They sat down and Ella began to look at the menu. Demetrius seemed restless.
“ Is there a problem?” Ella said glancing up.
“ I am just hungry , that’s all.” “ Oh, well me too.” She said.
They ordered there meals.
“Please , I would like another butterbeer.”Ella asked the server.
“ I really enjoy the taste do you?” She said trying to engage in some sort of conversation.
“ No.”
“ What is your deal?” Ella voice grew loudly.
“ Are you paying?” he said flatly.
“ Ella got in her purse and threw the money down.”
“ I am done.” Ella took one last swig of her butter beer and walked out.
Ella couldn’t believe she subjected herself to that. Everyone said this guy was nice, but he didn’t act that way towards her.
Ella walked over to a bench . “ Where are my friends. That’s who I need.”
“ So, how are you?” Draco sat down.
“ Your friend, yep he is your type of good.” Ella said with her arms crossed. “ How could girls like him?”
“ Let me take you out, I would show you a good time.”
“ No, I need to find my friends.”
“ Who needs them, when you can have me.”
“ What is your vendetta towards them?”
“ Here we go.” Draco said rolling his eyes.
He put his arm around her, “Listen , Ella we are meant together.”
“ What are you talking about?” Ella said glancing up at him.
FLASH FLASH FLASH
“Awww a rekindled romance.” Said the cool voice of reporter Rita Skeeter.
“ I also got some nice shots of your date with Demetrius.” “Only a half hour apart, a record.”
“ You are a vile human being.” “ You disgrace the name of journalism.”
“ Your words don’t affect me, but mine affect thousands.” “ They will love to see what is happening to the pretty American at Hogwarts.”
“ Thank you Draco, and oh where is your friend?” Rita said throwing him some coins.
Ella turned around to face him.
“ Funny isn’t it?” “ I fell for it again.” Ella stormed off
She couldn’t keep doing this to herself. She needed to find Hermione ASAP. She walked into every shop in Hogsmeade and they were no where to be found.
“Seamus, have you seen Harry, Ron or Hermione?”
“They went that way, there acting weird.”
“Thanks!” Ella took off.
It was nearly two and she still couldn’t find them. The cold wind made her cheeks burn as she walked away from Hogsmeade. She walked along the mountainside to tired to notice that she could barely see the tiny village in the distance.
“You’re being reckless.” She heard it as clear as day. “It came from the mountain.
“Where is the food?” Ella followed the voice into a clearing.
She stopped before an opening of a large cave.
“How is Ella?” It was Sirius black
“Good” They said in unison.
“You haven’t told her about your suspicions with Snape and Karkaroff?”
“Nope.”
“Good.”
Ella debated just walking in and confronting them, but she didn’t have the courage. Instead she just turned away and walked back to the castle. She regretted the day for it had been a bad one. |
