Ellouise felt a lump rise in her throat, she was tempted to down the rest of her fire whiskey, but decided against it. She placed one of her hands on Xavier’s knee, he was looking down at his feet, his cheeks, flustered and pink. Ellouise couldn’t help but smile.
“So you told them, and not me?” she asked in disbelief.
He look up, his left eyebrow raised quizzically.
“I didn’t want to scare you away, I was going to tell you... just not so soon”, he said in a small voice, averting his gaze once more.
Ellouise considered this statement. Did he really think it would scare her off? Or was he just scared she wouldn’t feel the same way?
“Xav, you should know by now that I don’t scare easy”, she said lifting his chin up so she could see his face. His eyes were soft and gentle, they sparkled in the dim light, engulfing her in a wave of emotions. Ellouise sighed deeply trying to catch her breath.
“Xavier, I love you”, she said in a soft voice.
“I love you too Ellie”, he said taking her face in his hand and kissing her full on the lips.
“Besides, you’re the bravest, craziest woman I know”, he added, “Who in their right minds would go for walk in Godric’s Hollow... alone?”, he said poking her in the ribs.
“You did what now?!” yelled a voice from further down the table. Charlie’s eyes were glued to the couple, his nostrils flared. “Are you... are you suicidal?” he yelled at Ellouise.
“Wait until Remus finds out, you’re in for it”, he said this time in Xavier’s direction.
“Oh shove off Charlie”, said Ellouise as she finished off her fire whiskey.
They were both standing now, glaring across the table at each other.
“You know what I’m glad things didn’t work out for us, otherwise I would have gotten roped up into your crazy suicidal madness!” he hissed.
“What do you mean things didn’t work out for us? There was no ‘us’ Charlie” she replied scathingly. The kitchen had suddenly gone quiet again, celebrations on hiatus as Charlie raised his voice again.
“Either way, I’m glad it worked out this way, you’re mental.” He said. Molly hissed at him from her seat, “That’s no way to talk to a lady”, she said.
“Oh she’s not a lady mum, she’s a common...”, Charlie’s words were suddenly drowned out by the arrival of a shimmering silver stallion. Remus Lupin’s voice filled the kitchen.
“At 5.47pm, Florence Ellouise Lupin, seven pounds- three ounces, entered the world. Both baby and mum are doing fine. We’ll be home tomorrow. We love you all.”
