Then he turned his head at Professor Truebridge. Oh no! Fire, water, and this corner of the classroom looking like a mess and they arent even halfway done with the lesson. Salander winced, expecting to be told off and made an example of in front of the entire class....

....and get 5 points for Slytherin.

Wait. What?

His mouth still askew when the Professor started to move away "Oh, thank you Mr Truebridge sir." he called out. He looked at the Slytherin girls and the Hufflepuffs and beamed. 5 pts a piece for getting wet.

Do they want another shower?

"Make sure the classroom is as clean and tidy as it was when you arrived before you leave, Salander." Truebridge added as he walked over to the next table.

"Good. You're getting the hang of this." He noticed the boy was holding his hand a bit oddly. "See me after class, I can show you a few wand grips that you'll find more effective if you like."

The Gryffindor scanned through the runes and picked another one that seemed to benefit his liking. Okay, here was one. Algiz. Hmm, well he guessed he could put it on the wood. What it meant to him was that you are always protected from danger here at Hogwarts. "Intaglio, Algiz, algiz, algiz, algiz." He said pointing his wand at the wood while looking at his book to see if he was carving it correctly. One of the three stem things were a bit slanted to the side, but it looked alright he guessed.

"That's not bad for a start." Truebridge commented. "Good. Keep practicing."

Runes are made to be carved in wood for several reasons, one being that when carving in wood, straight lines against the grain are the easiest marks to make, and the other being the natural aspect of the wood, of the tree it came from, and the way certain types of wood hold the magic differently. Stone is more permanent, but harder to get the magic to stick."

Waving a gloved hand at his thanks and his mention of going to get the stuff, Destiny continued to work on carving the rune on the wood. It didn't really look like the rune in the book, but at least it didn't say some random girl's name. Now for the trickier part. Placing the wand tip against the very top of the vertical line, Bennet incanted, "Intaglio, wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo" as he dragged his wand to the left at a downward 45 degree angle. Not too bad. Starting back at the middle of the vertical line, Bennet focused on finishing up this rune carving, "Intaglio, wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo" as he connected the vertical line to the end of the previous line by moving his wand up and to the right at a 45 degree angle. He overextended the last line by just under a millimeter, but it was barely noticeable. The carving clearly designated the Wunjo rune. "Niiiiiiiiice."

ooc: this is the first lesson, so she can't have been working on it before class. Generally we just RP like we were there all along, even if we only just manage to post ourselves.

"Those are some good suggestions and reasons. Practice carving them in your piece of practice wood now, with the Intaglio spell we have been working on."

Truebridge looked around. It looked like most students had got the hang of that method.

"The next method does not use wands, so for those of you who are done practicing the Intaglio method, please holster your wand and listen."

Truebridge started with a question,

"Can anyone explain what a 'galdr' is?".

Runes are made to be carved in wood for several reasons, one being that when carving in wood, straight lines against the grain are the easiest marks to make, and the other being the natural aspect of the wood, of the tree it came from, and the way certain types of wood hold the magic differently. Resolving to focus only on Wunjo, Bennet began again with his wand tip against the mark where he left off, "Intaglio. Wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo." Ah, the vertical line was completed. Now for the trickier part. Placing the wand tip against the very top of the vertical line, Bennet incanted, "Intaglio, wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo" as he dragged his wand to the left at a downward 45 degree angle. Not too bad. Starting back at the middle of the vertical line, Bennet focused on finishing up this rune carving, "Intaglio, wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo" as he connected the vertical line to the end of the previous line by moving his wand up and to the right at a 45 degree angle. He overextended the last line by just under a millimeter, but it was barely noticeable. The carving clearly designated the Wunjo rune. "Niiiiiiiiice." She repeated the process with her other three rune choices and before long all three were etched into her desk. "Professor Truebridge, I think Kenaz would be an appropriate rune to carve into the desks because some of the rune's divinatory meaning is wisdom, insight, solution to a problem, inspiration, creativity and understanding." All if which she figured a student would need in a classroom. "Some of the rune's magical meanings are study aid, energy and passion." And she definitely had passion enough for runes, if nothing else (even if she was just a first year). She paused for a moment and looked over her list again. "And Wunjo, sir, for well, perhaps all of it's divinatory meanings and it's magical meanings of completion of tasks and motivation." Practice carving them in your piece of practice wood now, with the Intaglio spell we have been working on." Truebridge looked around. It looked like most students had got the hang of that method. "The next method does not use wands, so for those of you who are done practicing the Intaglio method, please holster your wand and listen."
