Truebridge only watched for a moment as the Ravenclaws left and then he turned his attention back to his class and the students that deserved his attention. Through the entire ordeal 'the confrontation' had been playing in the background.

And he did think they were mad.

He had to ask.....

And he winced at the second part a bit. Everybody tells him 'be nice to the Whomping Willow'. Nobody says 'be nice to Salander'. Preferential treatment thats what it was. And this Slytherin lad aint givin' it nuthin'.

The next thing the Professor says pushed all the dung-like chocolate out of his head because they were gonna be carving up the furniture! Perhaps for the first time ever Salander eagerly opened up a book and looked into the Runes list. They should seem familiar to the him now, but after a few seconds his eyes glazed over and the runes and the words started to just mix together. He looked back up at the Professor and raised his hand "Uhrmm.... The Tiwaz rune..... because it looks like an arrow pointing up and thats kinda where I want my grades to go."

Not to mention its heck easy to carve an arrow. he does it all the time
"No Salander, I can't say I know why the tree likes chocolate, but the mooncalf dung is fairly obvious." He paused. "It's a particularly excellent fertiliser."

And ah. Tiwaz?

"I too would like to see your grades up." Truebridge responded. "And Tiwaz would help you to strengthen your resolve to do so, and perhaps compete against your classmates too."

"Why Isa? How does Isa provide benefit in a learning environment?" Truebridge encouraged the student to think about it.

She looked back over at Jim only to feel her heart drop. He was actually leaving and the only person he looked at was Lexi. Right, obviously the girlfriend was the invisible one here. Why should she know anything that was going on?

She watched as he walked out the door. She was tempted herself to follow him and make sure he was alright but knew she couldn't. She was already behind in the class and she needed to learn all she could if she was going to pass that blasted OWL.

Turning back she seen Neptune leaving too. Great, she was probably going to follow Jimmy and continue whatever it was they had going on here.

Sinking back into her seat and closing her book Marie didn't even bother answering the question Truebs had asked. Then again, she didn't even remember what it was. She really didn't care much now, she just wanted class to be over so she could find Jimmy.

Yeah, she was gonna be pretty useless in this class now.

Truebridge walked over to Marie and quietly, without a word, opened her book to the correct page again. He tapped the page and stepped away.

Kurumi wasn't sure if she should feel elated or in utter shock. It was like ever child's dream to deface school property and not get in trouble, or something like that.

Flipping open her textbook, Kurumi scanned the various runes to see which, if any, she would fide useful. "Fehu would be very useful as it implies acheiving goals, fruitful endeavours, hardwork paying off. I hate to put effort into my studies only to find that they be in vain. So, Fehu would help make that effort successful." She began looking at the very first rune mentioned. "Uruz would also be good because it would help me finish things quickly not to mention Thurisaz as it will help me with hardships and bring out the knowledge in my mind that may be locked away..." Kurumi was beginning to think that all the runes in the textbook could be useful. "Ansuz could protect me from any colds my classmates may have. If someone were to cough on a quill and then I borrowed it, Ansuz could ward off the illness for example." Kurumi scanned the rest of the page. "Professor, if there was no limit as to how many runes one may use, I think one could find every single one of these useful." Could she carve all of them into her desk? It would make for a very intricate design.

Seeing as she had grown up doing things the non-magical way, Kurumi wasn't too keen on using a chisel to etch each run into her desk. Still, if others were interested in seeing a demonstration, she wouldn't take that away from them. Personally, she would rather learn the magical way. Seeing as her classmates were giving mixed opinions, Kurumi just decided to sit back and wait.
"Clever conclusions Kurumi. And you're right, every rune is useful in its own way."

Kate giggled, those were both good things, awesome.

Katie thought, MAN THIS WAS A HARD QUESTION, hmmm, "Well I think the magic way so we can learn some magic while we do it" She said, cause learning magic was awesome, and that was one of the reasons why she was at Hogwarts!

"Yes. Passion and speed. Thank you Katie." Truebridge answered, deadpan.

"I shall teach you both and you can practice whichever you like. We'll practice on spare pieces of wood and when you are confident of which method you prefer, we'll work on the tables." Truebridge conjured a piece of wood and simply duplicated it, passing it out by charming one piece to float over to each student and come to a gentle rest on the table in front of them. "Please collect some gloves and goggles from this box here. You must wear these." He summoned a box and placed it on his desk. Eh. If it were up to him he'd let them go to it without worry about protective gear but apparently parents got jumpy about such things these days.

"We'll begin with the magical method. Some of you may remember a similar sounding spell from a class I taught on Kappa a few years back. The incantation is 'Intaglio', and the wand movement is simply moving your wand against the surface exactly where you wish to cut. The trick with the intent here is that you need to keep in mind the rune you are attempting to carve. Concentrate on the meaning and on the name of the rune, repeating it over and over until you are done. For example, if I wished to carve Uruz, I would touch my wand to the wood, and say' Intaglio Uruz uruz uruz uruz uruz...' until I have completed the shape of the Uruz rune." He paused.

"So the incantation and the intent changes as you carve different runes. Is that understood? You may practice on the pieces of wood I handed out just now, but you may not cut into the table yet. Furthermore, you'll find that the worst that will happen as far as injuring yourself goes, is a cut and a bit of blood, you certainly won't severe a finger or anything of that sort. It isn't that sort of spell. But of course you'll all be particularly careful won't you? "

ooc: going to leave it here for a bit. Feel free to practice the spell and carve up your bit of wood. Anyone not wearing the provided gloves and goggles will be in a lot of trouble IC. Truebridge will be around to check people's work and provide help. Remember, no carving the table just yet.
