Xavier walked up the flight of stairs, his hand collecting dust as it moved up the railing. He tried to take his time, but five minutes later he was standing in front of her door. He sighed, then took another step forward and placed his hand on the door knob. Xavier stood there for what seemed like half an hour, and then he finally turned the knob and entered, closing the door silently behind him. He had done it, after days of thinking about her, of remembering her, of wishing that he had the strength to see her... he was finally here. And there she was, her hair was loose and tangled, her bed spread was wrinkled and wrapped around her awkwardly, but she was still beautiful. Xavier sat himself down in the arm chair by her side and placed her hand in his. It was warm and soft, the silkiness of her skin caressed his, sending a shiver down his spine. He let her hand go, placing it gently on the bed beside her, then leant his head back against the chair. “I’m so sorry Ellie,” he whispered, “I’m so sorry I didn’t stop him from going with you. This is all my fault.” Xavier took a deep breath and leant forward studying her facial expression as if he was waiting for her to respond. When she didn’t he continued.
“He’s a bloody coward, always has been. Even when we went back to their place just after the war broke out, his parents were taken, they’re presumed dead now... when we arrived at their place, they had been hiding in the basement, Carlisle almost blew my head off, Anton on the other hand hid in a corner like the little the coward he is.” Xavier sighed as he relived the memory of that night.
“We were about to leave when two death eaters turned up. Anton panicked and fled, leaving Carlisle, my father and I to face them. We were lucky....” he paused, trying to find words to continue. “I just wish you could have been lucky too. I’m sorry Ellie... I hope you can forgive me.”
Ellouise didn’t stir, she just lay quietly as if she were in a deep sleep. Xavier stood up and went to the other side of the bed where he lay down beside her and watched her sleep.

Xavier laughed to himself. “Remember when I used to call you Ellie the elephant... you used to get so mad at me,” he laughed again, “You thought you were fat, think I even made you cry once... sorry for that. But the look on your face was priceless sometimes.” He looked down at her. She didn’t move. “I’ll let you in on a little secret... just between you and me.” He smiled. “I think you’re the most amazing and the most beautiful witch I’ve ever met.” Still Ellouise didn’t move. Xavier half hoped that she would open her eyes and hear him. Only because he knew he wouldn’t have the courage to say it to her when she was awake. Xavier continued to watch her, occasionally she would move her arm or pull a face, but then she would just go back to being a motionless zombie. He supposed her body coped better with the pain when she was unconscious.

It was night time again, nobody had disturbed them, Remus had gone to bed to catch up on the sleep he’d missed, and Naomi only came in once to check on Ellouise and showed Xavier how to apply the ointment to her wound so that he could do it again later. Xavier’s heart sank when he saw the large abrasion on her side, it was still bleeding a bit, but nowhere near as much as it had before. The skin was blistered at the edges, the little bubbles filled with yellow fluid. He dabbed the ointment onto her wound and around the edges as lightly as he could, trying not to cause her too much pain. Xavier peered over Ellouise, the clock on the bedside table showed it was nearly half past ten. He wasn’t planning on leaving her side but the next Order meeting was about to start. He considered skipping it, but decided not to. He wanted to know how things were going on the front line. It was a different war on the front line, sitting here at head quarters talking strategy seemed all too easy at times and quite often he forgot what the war was really like. Quietly Xavier tiptoed out of the room, stopping to look back at Ellouise before he closed the door. He would be back.

Hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
